In this video, Joshua Casper reviews the key features of Carbon (Virtual Guitarist) by Ujam. A brand new heavy guitar VST plugin that is sure to melt faces and blow minds!

The Toughest Element

This story-telling superweapon brings heavily distorted sounds to your production…

Own a UJAM Plugin? A limited time Carbon Crossgrade Offer is available.

UJAM built CARBON because there was nothing like it – a virtual instrument creating versatile modern “sound-designed” guitar sounds in all kinds of music genres – from the super-quantized accents in electronic music to action-packed big riffs in game soundtracks to subtle vibes in movie scores.

What’s in There?

Organic, distorted & processed rhythm guitar sounds
First ever Virtual Guitarist with Instrument Mode
Unique Layerer soundstage combining up to four guitarists
Finisher multi-effect rack with 75 cutting-edge effect algorithms
The Most Versatile Virtual Guitarist

CARBON is for sound designers and musicians who go beyond borders. It’s an otherworldly guitar for game soundtracks and film scores, but can also give electronic and pop music that extra kick. It’s a wild and heavily distorted sound, yet that rawness is somehow precise, controlled and sometimes even synth-like at the same time.

Sound Designers’ Delight

No matter how much you push the edgy digital effects, the underlying sonic textures always remain organic and raw. The instrument always remains playable and musical. This lets CARBON play perfectly alongside synths, drum machines, orchestras and band musicians.

Decidedly Cinematic

It is the sound of hellfire inside an Icelandic volcano and also the sensitive instrumentation aboard a lonely space station orbiting the moons of Jupiter. It is heavy and in-your-face when pushed but also light-and-delicate when dialed down. Use it to inject an instant, controlled blast of raw power or to provide a slowly evolving momentum to build up and carry a scene.

CARBON’s Ultra Amp and Future Distortion algorithms leave no call for insane overdrive unanswered. Its innovative Layerer feature, a virtual soundstage with up to four guitarists, lets you control bigness and width from a tame mono riff to the earth-shaking quadro Wall Of Doom.

Organic, distorted and processed rhythm guitar sounds for electronic music, soundtrack, rock and other contemporary music genres

Instrument Mode lets you play a wide range of articulations on an amazing 8-string guitar, Player Mode comes with inspiring riffs and phrases

Unique Layerer soundstage combining up to four guitarists for ultimate fatness

Finisher multi-effect rack combining 20 cutting-edge effect algorithms into 100 presets, live-controlled or automated by one single knob

Instrument Mode

CARBON’s Instrument Mode lets you play a wide range of articulations on an amazing 8-string guitar.

#KawaiCN39 #KawaiPiano #DigitalPiano

Merriam Pianos presents another piano review by Stu Harrison, sales director and pianist in the Toronto Canada area. Stu covers Kawai’s value-packed CN39 Digital Piano with discussion on its action/feel, tone engine, speaker system, and full feature review.

The Kawai CN39 is a mid-range digital built for professional or home-use, with a rugged cabinet and elegant finish options. It is the top of their CN line-up, which also includes the CN29.

Merriam’s experience with the CN series generally has been extremely positive and one of our most successful digital products of all-time. We find them to be an excellent blend of technology in a well-built but more simplified cabinets and feature sets, to keep costs down but performance high for the dollar.

The CN39 uses Kawai’s RH3 action, which they’ve utilized across most of their mid to upper-mid range digital pianos like the ES8, CN29, and MP7SE. It has a triple sensor that’s highly regarded as one of the most accurate in the industry for midi output, and a physical design which simulates the dynamic resistance of an acoustic well, with a realistic key-bed feel as well (i.e. there’s some give to it, just like an acoustic key hitting the felt punching under its front rail.)

It uses a micro-texture similar to Neotex on the white keys, and also has an escapement / let-off simulation as well.

The RH3 can also be found on Nord’s new “GRAND” model, a piano that is also receiving rave reviews for its action realism.

The CN39 has a 256-note polyphony, and has Kawai’s latest Harmonic Imaging engine on its piano sounds. It’s loaded with their newest SK-EX sample set, and an excellent selection of other sound categories like E-piano, pads, organ, as well as a full GM2 sound bank.

Connectivity / Features:

Kawai’s done a great job (as has Roland btw) in equipping nearly its entire lineup with Bluetooth Midi as well as BT Audio, and the CN39 is no exception. This allows the piano to be used with Kawai’s virtual technician app as well as their Sound Museum app – essentially a remote-control for the piano.

It also has discrete audio line-outs, which is super convenient for customers who want to send it through a stereo, PA, or recording device, without having the local speakers shut off (which does happen if you plug something into the headphone jacks).

Speaking of Headphone jacks, the CN39 has a discrete headphone amplifier with Onkyo processing, which gives you a much higher standard of audio quality and control for head-phone playing than what previous models could offer. It’s absolutely a more engaging and authentic experience, especially with a decent set of cans in the $100 – 250 range.

The piano is available in 3 colours, including White, Satin Black, and Premium Rosewood.
