  1. I'm confident that this carbon tax will contribute to the expansion of New Brunswick's robust economy, and grow it from the heart outwards. For all of peoplekind, because it's the current year, except for that scary meanie Stephen Harper.

  2. "Burning fuels and blaming carbon tax because we now have to clean up."
    sound s a lot like:
"Making a mess and blaming Mommy because we now have to clean up."

  3. People from the Atlantic provinces are some of the politest I have come across in Canada. I do wish the Conservatives choose their next Federal leader from the Atlantic provinces, who sounds mature and reasonable like Mr. Higgs, and is not someone still stuck in the 50s on social issues and denials.

  4. Premier Higgs’s message is so contradictory it is just brutal. He talks about how New Brunswick is a province that depends heavily on exports, so how does the Liberal backup tax square with competing in a North American market where the US has no carbon tax and Mexico has a pitifully low one? Elections are fought on a lot of issues and the polling data provides precious little indication that the Canadian public in general want to go to a $40 per tonne tax on GHG emissions by 2021 or a $50 per tonne tax on GHG emissions by 2022. If Premier Higgs is not willing to go there, and he brings in a carbon tax at a rate that satisfies the $30 per tonne criterion for 2020, he is essentially gambling on the Supreme Court ruling against the government on appeal or the Liberals losing government to the Conservatives before 2024, otherwise he would only escape the backup tax for about a year and have it reimposed again a little more than a year from now. If he thought the backup tax was too onerous before the election, why has it suddenly become less onerous now? Also, lovely Vassy should know that if the Conservative climate change plan won’t get Canada to its Paris targets, neither will the Liberal plan. With the Liberal plan there is far greater risk of carbon leakage, a geeky term for a very unpleasant reality: shuttering of Canadian businesses to have production diverted south of the border, so global GHG emissions are transferred abroad rather than reduced. Maybe meeting our Paris accord targets is the wrong objective to begin with, since these targets don’t take carbon leakage into account at all.

  5. Lol your business will all get undercut by America business. Bye bye NB that what you get for voting liberal

  6. This is why i voted Peoples Alliance. Higgs is spineless. We need change in NB and OTTAWA. We need real leaders who will speak for the people not dictate and rule over them. This country is in such a mess right now. Time to bring in new parties with new ideas because the status quo is not working.

  7. See problem here in the comment section is. That you guys are failing to understand youth , i would say age 35 and above are cut off from age 26 at the present …
Any party denying climate change , will suffer results like maxime
Bernier , Thing is find a proper way to deal , negotiations be made
And i am telling you no any college or university student is going to believe you if you deny climate change , even conservatives didn’t took that risk

  8. TELL US WHY USA CHINA & INDIA DO NOT HAVE CARBON PRICING. CARBON TAX WAS COOKED UP BY BUSH AND AL GORE. PLEASE TELL US WHAT THEY DO WITH THE MONEY COLLECT.

  9. Awesome that climate change continues to come to the forefront. It is preparing progressive kids for what might come and awareness is always better than being in the dark like conservative kids who their parents have lied to. So one day, these conservative kids will not be prepared, be shocked, be jobless because they stayed in industries that had no future, etc. Great job, conservative parents! LOL! Touché!

  10. the west will somehow give more next year to cover the cost of the poor poor welfare easterners suffering from such terrible consequences

  11. Just bc an area votes for a party DOES NOT mean they WANT EVERY POLICY of that party. Have a referendum on Carbon Tax alone, ASK YOUR CITIZENS THEMSELVES.

  12. I HOPE YOU ARE ALL PROUD OF DRIVING LITTLE KIDS INTO DEPRESSION AND HISTORIC AMOUNTS OF CHILDREN ON MEDICATIONS FOR PANIC AND MOOD DISORDERS BC THEY FEEL THEY HAVE NO FUTURE. GOOD JOB _NO AMOUNT OF CARBON TAX IS GOING TO FIX CLIMATE CHANGE – BUT YOUR RHETORIC WILL DESTROY A GENERATION OF KIDS MENTAL HEALTH

Enjoy your higher carbon tax NB!!!

  13. Oh CBC please! “2/3 Canadians voted for a party that backed a carbon tax”.

100% of Canadians breathe air that has pollution in it. Doesn’t mean we agree with it, just have no choice if you want to breathe.

Talk about more CBC misleading. Defund CBC.

Edited to add: and CO2 is plant food not pollution.

  14. Hey, lets ground planes. That will help. Lets bring back local supply warehouses fed by trains, where we can get a part 20 km away for out car, instead of fly the part from Vancouver to Edmonton, one part at a time. No, that would be simple, WE NEED A CARBON TAX. Well, we know it has nothing to do with the environment, no matter how hysterical they make the little children, MOMMY I WANT A ICE CREAM CONE. It has to do with a new control structure of taxation.

  15. Shame on people brainwashing kids, that the world will end in 12 years.
Disgusting to see children crying because of liars.

  16. Liberals will take 350 000 immigrants which will help meet Canada’s emissions target . Trudeau believes in this plan

  17. Socialism is thriving in Canada. More Taxes just makes the Elites get richer.. This is not for climate but a cash grab by Canadian Elites who sold this nation out.

  18. I’m not from NB but from what I can see is that NB is taxed way more then other provinces… I wouldn’t want to live there.
