Patna, July 18: The State Government of Bihar, which introduced several innovative measures in mission to make Right to Information a success, approved the name of retired bureaucrat RJM Pillai for appointment as chief information commissioner (CIC).
Pillai, a former chief secretary of Bihar, will replace A K Choudhary, who will retire on August 8.
He had also held the office of the chairman, Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
According to sources in secretariat, the file regarding the approval of Pillai as next CIC was sent to the Raj Bhavan for the approval of the governor.
Earlier on Monday, chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and leader of opposition in the assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui held a meeting to clear Pillai's name for the post.
An 1973 batch IAS officer retired on November 15 last year.
