Hong Kong, Dec. 21: The second-largest economy of the world China is trying its best to climb to the top spot in all possible fields. Latest, in the list of Chinese supremacy is the world's top patent filer.
According to Thomson Reuters research report, China will surpass the U.S. and Japan in patent filling in very near future.
In a move to change its image from "made in China" to a "designed in China" government is pushing for innovations in fast growing sectors like pharmaceuticals, technology and automobile.
According to the data from Thomson Reuters Derwent World Patents Index, published patent applications from China is expected to total nearly 500,000 in 2015, following by 400,000 from the U.S.and 300,000 from Japan.
Published applications from China's patent office have risen by an average of 16.7% annually from 171,000 in 2006 to nearly 314,000 in 2010, data further showed.
During 2006-10, Japan topped the list with the highest volume, followed by the U.S., China, Korea and Europe.
China outperformed other nations in the said period, as domestic patent grew nearly 73% in year 2010. Same is the case in overseas patent filling.
According to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) data, in year 2010, ZTE Corp from China was No. 2 on the list of patent applicants just behind Japanese Panasonic Corp. Another, Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Co Ltd stood fourth in the list just behind the U.S. chip maker Qualcomm Inc.
