New Delhi, Jul,9: The Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said that the jailed former Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi has written to her a letter asking for permission to attend the coming Monsoon Session of Parliament, but she said that any decision pertaining to that will be taken by the Concerned Court trying the Congress MP from Pune.
"The issue you are raising, I will refer to it. There is a legal process going on. It is for the competent court to decide," Ms Kumar said when told that MPs facing trial on criminal charges have attended the House in the past.
Ms Kumar escaped from answering when she was asked by the reporter if courts had the power to stop an elected MP from attending the House.
Suresh Kalmadi was removed from the post of Congress parliamentary party secretary and sacked as the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee chief prior to his arrest by the CBI for his alleged role in wide scale irregularities in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Ms Kumar, denied the media speculation that DMK leader A Raja had written a letter to her seeking similar permission.The Monsoon Session of Parliament commence from August 1.
