New Delhi, Jul 2: An important meeting between Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, unable to calm Anna mood  for his pre scheduled fast on August 16 .

 

The 30-minute meeting at Sonia Gandhi residence 10, Janpath ended at around 4.35 IST . Lokpal Bill Drafting Committee chairperson Pranab Mukherjee was also present in the meeting.

"I've told Ms Gandhi that the right draft should reach Parliament for discussion else I would start my hunger strike on August 16," Mr azare told media persons after the meeting with Sonia. 

RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, who was with Mr Hazare, added that there was a discussion on 15 issues and the civil society presented both the government and their bill drafts before Ms Gandhi. 

"It was a good talk. She has promised to look into those issues and discuss with her party leaders," Mr Kejriwal said.

 

The meeting had was expected to takes place on June 30 but due to the busy  schedules of Congress leader, it was rescheduled. 

During his campaign for Loakpal bill , Mr Hazare had written multiple letters to Ms Gandhi, including the one in which he expressed that he was hurt by the Congress leaders' "smear campaign".

In another letter, he also urged Ms Gandhi to discuss the Lokpal draft in the National Advisory Council (NAC).

Civil society representatives have been requesting various political party leaders to build a consensus on the stronf Loakpal bill. Anna Team has already met BJPleader L KAdvani, Left party leaders, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad.
