Agartala, Jul 26: Volatility of Indian currency particularly against US dollar is increasing the cost of imports and pain is felt by industry as well as government books.
In the North Eastern State after Tripura, Assam has also demanded from the Union Government to administer the gas price in rupee parity instead of existing US dollar, as most of the power generation projects in northeastern region have been suffering due to inordinate hike of gas price over the years.
Talking to media on Tuesday, Assam Power Minister Pradyut Kumar Bordoloi alleged that the gas price had increased 156 % since 2010 and as a result, production cost of thermal power rose to about Rs 4.30 per unit in the region.
The appreciation is not because of demand but because of currency movement as Indian rupee emerged as one of the worst performance name in last year because of global economy worry and government inaction.
