Nalbari, July 10: After the Hawra -Kalka express accident in Allahabad Kanpur section another train derailed in Assam. The Puri bound train derailed following a blast on track close to the Ghograpara railway station in Nalbari District of Assam.
As per the sources engine and twelve compartment of the Guahati-Puri express have derailed. Some explosive device has been also found at the accident site. The train was going from Guwahati to Puri.
As per sources, more than 70 people are injured in the accident and Railway rescue team is shifting the injured passengers to nearest hospitals.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon Kalka bound train from Howrah derailed near Mewar Junction in between Allahabad and Kanpur. As per reports more than 40 passengers were killed and over 300 sustained injuries.
Government announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for family of those killed in the accident and Rs 2 lakh for those injured in the accident.
A police spokesman said the explosion took place around 8.30 pm while the Guwahati-Puri Express was nearing Ghograpara in western Assam’s Nalbari distict, about 70 km from Assam’s main city of Guwahati. Rescue trains with doctors and paramedics have since arrived at the accident site.
Both the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) are active in the region.
Meanwhile, all incoming and outgoing trains to Assam have been suspended following the blast."Until we repair the track, movement of trains would remain suspended," a railway official said.
