New Delhi, May 25: India's mobile service provider added 6.5 million new subscribers in April, taking the total to 670.57 million, according to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

The No.1 player, Bharti Airtel added 2.01 million subscribers in April users, taking the market share to 27.33%. At the end of the reporting its GSM base grew to 183.29 million.

With 1.48 million addition, second largest player Idea Cellular, owmed by Aditya Birla group, total subscriber base rose to 114.2 million.  Idea's market share at the end of April stood at 17.03%.

Scam hit Uninor continued its aggressive approach and added whooping 1.12 million in the reporting month, taking the total to 43.55 million by April-end.

After reporting loss in customer base last month, Aircel bounced back and added 1.01 million new customers, taking the total to 63.58 million.

Among private players Vodafone lagged behind and added just 0.81 million in the month, taking the total to 151.28 million. The company, embroiled in legal battle over the tax issue, market share stood at 22.56%.

Both the state-owned telecom companies, BSNL and MTNL continued to bleed with MTNL losing 100,000 and BSNL with no addition.  The subscriber base of BSNL and MTNL stood at 94.67 million and 5.48 million, respectively.

Relatively a late entrant in the sector, Videocon added 0.15 million new subscriber in the month taking total base to 6.10 million.

Unperturbed by Supreme Court's order to cancel licenses Uninor and Videocon reported over 2% growth in their subscriber additions. However, other players like S Tel and Etisalat DB failed to add any new user.

MTS, owned by Sistema Shyam TeleServices, also added 0.20 million customers in April taking its total customer base to 16.05 million
